Want to verify textbook ans on angular velocity
I got the following qn: In a circus performance, a large 5kg hoop of radius 3m rolls without slipping. If the hoop is given an angular speed of 3 rad/s while rolling on the horizontal and allowed to roll up a ramp inclined at 20 degrees with the horizontal, how far(measured along the incline)...- tubworld

MI moment of inertia on pulley
A pulley has a moment of inertia of 5kg metre squared and a radius of 0.5m. The cord suporting the masses m1 and m2 does not slip and is hung on each side of the pulley with a cord thru the pulley. Assume that the axle is frictionless. How to find the acceleration of each mass when m1=2 and...- tubworld

The incredible lifting machine heat loss?
the incredible lifting machine heat loss?? While stumbling upon this website on the Incredible lifting machine, http://tigre.ucr.edu/dipen/phy11/heat.htm I was wondering what could be some of the reasons why the work down calculated as in mgh does not equal to the work done under the pv...- tubworld

Rotation of cylindrical habitat in space?
I have this question on this article by G.K. O'Neill,1974. who proposed having a cylindrical habitat in space. Then the article posed a question asking me to ponder on the speed of the rotation of the cylinder such that it wld imitate Earth's gravitational field at the walls of the cylinder...- tubworld

Universal Gravitation on escape velocity
add on my 2 cents worth Something just came to me: for part a do i need to consider the escape speed to leave the Earth as well. (i.e. escape speed to leave Earth + escape speed to leave sun)?- tubworld

Universal Gravitation on escape velocity
On dealing with Universal Gravitation topic, I came across this question: what is the min speed, relative to the sun, necessary for a spacecraft to escape the solar system if it starts at the Earth's orbit? My working: v=sqrt(2GM/R), where G=universal constant, R= distance between Earth...- tubworld

Question of centre of mass and parallel axis theorem
Since only 1 particule is moving, the linear KE = 1/2 mv^2. But again, who do we find the sped of the centre of mass. At this pt in time, the centre of mass of the SYSTEM isn't moving. it only moves rotationally after itwas hit by the small puck. So wldnt the speed be zero? only the small puck...- tubworld
