Undergrad How can a column represent a vector in linear algebra?
Thanks for responding. May be I didn't make it very clear in my question, it is not the solution of the problem but some part of approach which I can't understand. And following is what I don't understand why is \begin{pmatrix}2\\1\end{pmatrix} considered a "vector" (How is it...- vijay_singh

Undergrad How can a column represent a vector in linear algebra?
I am reading "Linear Algebra" by Strang. In the first lesson, he talks about how to solve equations with 2 unknowns and he shows 2 approaches i,e row approach and column approach. I understand the row approach because it makes sense. I understand the column approach too, but I don't understand...- vijay_singh

Undergrad Why Do Physicists Multiply by dx When Solving ODEs?
I know people have already tried to give an explanation, but I would recommend you to browser Thomas's Calculus book and look for section 3.8. I am glad I looked it up, I had the same question for ages. Its no fun solving problems when you know you don't understand the first principles.- vijay_singh

Undergrad Why is the a=dv/dt equation used in integration and when is it applicable?
I see in many text that a = dv/dt implies that dv = a dt How is that possible, can anybody please explain me. As far as i know dv/dt is a symbol for derivative of v w.r.t t and not ratio between dv and dt.- vijay_singh

Undergrad How would a man on earth appear from outer space
Hi I was reading a general physics book and wondered how would a man on Earth appear to somebody watching from outer space. Say for example a man on Earth just drops a ball from his hand, will it appear to somebody watching from outer space, as if the ball is released tangent to the spin...- vijay_singh

Undergrad Ball dropped from a moving train
Can anybody please explain why the ball dropped from a moving train appears to take a parabolic path w.r.t the frame of reference of a person standing at the platform? Thanks- vijay_singh

Undergrad Derivation of S = ut + 1/2at^2
Hi I tried to derive the distance traveled by a body at contact acceleration from the definition of acceleration (increase in speed every sec), but the ended with a different result. Can you see what I am doing wrong. u = initial speed t = time taken S = {distance in 1st sec} +...- vijay_singh

LaTeX Pasting LATEX Content from LyX Editor to Forum Posts
Hi I am first time user of LATEX. I have LyX editor where I am able to create LATEX documents. But I couldn't find any clear solution for pasting that LATEX content into my posts in the forum. Is there any simple way to copy LATEX document from the editor to forum posts?- vijay_singh

Question from Problems in General Physics (Irodov)
Hi Following is a question from "Problems in General Physics - Irodov". I think I should be able to solve this problem but I don't get a part of the question. Wondering if somebody can clarify what does " velocity which is n=2 times less than the river flow velocity" means is mathematical...- vijay_singh
