Quantitative way to compare theoretical values to experimental values

I am looking at the cross-sectional shape of a sagging membrane. I have several theoretical models, neither of which fit perfectly. So rather than comparing values, I'm comparing shapes. One model fits fairly well, however I'm unsure of which quantity is correct to specify a 'goodness' of a...

What exactly is the physics behind transition radiation and TR detectors?

I'm currently studying modern particle detectors, and was wondering whether someone on physicsforums could explain what transition radiation really is, and how exactly it is detected? My knowledge: - I've read that Cherenkov radiation is similar to transition radiation. - I understand how...

A simple microphone preamp can someone explain this circuit to me?

Ah, thanks for that diagram.. that's looking much better. Thats explained a few things in itself.. Hmm. Yeah, I really have no clue about the resistor on the right either. I have no idea why it's there. would it have anything to do with DC voltage mixing with an AC voltage?... that's just a guess.

A simple microphone preamp can someone explain this circuit to me?

Hi guys. Firstly, sorry if this question is far to easy for this section of the forums. Basically, I was bored and decided to take apart a microphone I that I had just lying around. It came with a box that you have to put the microphone through, which had the following circuit in it...

The equation of a roller coaster loop

I've decided to resign from this project lol.. I believe to fully acquire an equation for these shapes, you have to know about frensel integrals... which I haven't studied yet.

The equation of a roller coaster loop

Hi everyone. I was wondering about the equation of a roller coaster loop. Most people do not realize this, but a roller coaster loop is not a circle.. but rather a 'clothoid loop' shape.. the reason for this being, with a circular loop, the 'G force' varies quite a lot, and is uncomfortable...
