Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
Oh, alright, I get it now. So in conclusion basically, centripetal force does have to always point to the center? -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
I don't see a component of gravity that is parallel to the string. Can you draw it out? -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
What are you axes/what's your reference? -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
Sorry, I read that as perpendicular for some reason. A gravity component is only parallel to the string twice in the entire circle though. -

So in that case it wouldn't be pointing to the center and my original statement is correct. -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
What's the radial component? Gravity is on the y scale, it doesn't have an x component, unless you're changing the axes somehow. -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
So does the centripetal force, by definition, ALWAYS point to the center of the circle? Uniform or non uniform circular motion? e; It still doesn't make sense. The circle is a vertical one (I forgot to mention that) so the amount of tension needed varies. If I wanted to maintain a constant... -

Undergrad Centripetal force of a ball swinging
(Look at attached pic) The red ball is attached to a string which is being spun in a vertical circle. The downwards force is gravity and the other green one is the tension force. The blue is the sum of the green vectors. It is the centripetal force because it's the net force (and thus is equal... -

Grade 11 Sound Intensity Question
Another one: Homework Statement You are observing a little light that emits a beep and a flash at the same time. You move backwards until the moment before you no longer hear the beep. You measure the beep to be at a frequency of 512Hz with a wavelength of 0.66m, and the time between the...- Zarquad

Grade 11 Sound Intensity Question
Homework Statement If Phrank's new speakers produce a sound of 90dB at 10m, a) How many decibels would be required for the sound to be one hundred times the intensity? b) How close would Phrank need to stand for the intensity to be at 60dB? Homework Equations β2 - β1 = 10 log...- Zarquad

High School Mastering the Egg Drop Challenge: Tips and Tricks for 3 Egg Success
Simon Bridge, I guess I did word the restrictions as well as I could have. It isn't that a single side can't be more than 25cm, the horizontal distance, from the eastern most point to the western most point can't be greater than 25cm. That applies to the length, width, and height. Though... -

High School Mastering the Egg Drop Challenge: Tips and Tricks for 3 Egg Success
I've never done an egg drop project before. There's no restriction on that stuff, but I'd rather not have a "one use" type container, because I'd like to be able to test it before the actual drop without damaging/ruining it. Alright. e; It didn't let me do the search, because the word "egg"... -

High School Mastering the Egg Drop Challenge: Tips and Tricks for 3 Egg Success
How it's going to happen: - 1 container with 3 eggs in it (they must be placed individually in ziplock bags) - Small to medium sized eggs - 3 back to back drops from 75m - Get all 3 eggs out within 20 seconds - The lighter the container WITH the eggs the better Restrictions: - No side...
