SUMMARY

Sam is seeking a low-cost 3D panel method to study external flows on subsonic airplanes, specifically focusing on interactions between the wing and fuselage as well as ground effects. He is overwhelmed by the variety of software options available and requests a list of suitable software along with their advantages and disadvantages. One recommended tool is COMSOL Multiphysics (formerly FEMLAB), noted for its powerful capabilities in fluid dynamics analysis, provided the user has adequate expertise.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics principles
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software
  • Basic knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics or similar simulation tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Research COMSOL Multiphysics for fluid dynamics applications
  • Explore alternative software options for 3D panel methods, such as ANSYS Fluent
  • Investigate the principles of ground effect in aerodynamics
  • Learn about the integration of 3D modeling with CFD simulations
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, interns in aerodynamics research, and students studying fluid dynamics who are looking for cost-effective simulation methods for subsonic aircraft analysis.

Dear all of u,
my name is sam and I am making an internship. For my company i have to find a low cost 3D panel method in order to study external flows on subsonic airplanes. For examples interaction between wing and fuselage, ground effect... The fact is there are too many software and i am totally lost, so if someone could give me a list of those software adapted to my case with the advantages and inconvenients it would be really kind and helpfull.
Thank you bye advance for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,

I don't know how much it costs for businesses, but one software package which my university uses is http://www.comsol.com/products/femlab/ I don't know how indepth your analysis needs to go. Femlab is really powerful if you know how to use it.
