A user's post regarding the US military attack video on Wikileaks was deleted shortly after posting, accompanied by an infraction for "off topic/trolling." The user argued that their comment about the asymmetrical nature of the Iraq invasion was relevant to the discussion. Despite requesting clarification from the moderator, Evo, no response was received, leading to frustration over the lack of explanation. Another participant suggested that the moderation decision should not be publicly discussed and indicated that the deleted post was unrelated to the thread's main topic. The discussion highlights concerns about moderation transparency and the criteria for determining off-topic content.

I recently posted in Russ's thread about the US military attack video released on Wikileaks. Within minutes of posting it was deleted and I received an infraction from Evo for "off topic/trolling" with no further explanation. Russ claimed that people hold a double standard for the US military and the insurgents and I simply stated that the situation is not symmetrical since the US invaded Iraq and not vice versa. I replied to Evo asking her to explain in what way the post was off topic or irrelevant and did not receive a reply.

As far as I can tell, the decision was a knee-jerk reaction to something which Evo found offensive (especially since it was deleted so quickly). The justification of "off topic/trolling" is so flimsy I really want a better answer.

If you want a more detailed explanation, you should PM Evo about it. We don't discuss specifics of moderation decisions in the public forums.

Your post was about the 9/11 attack and had nothing to do with the topic.

Hello everyone, I recently revisited Physics Forums after a long hiatus (about 4-5 years) and started catching up on the recent discussions. What immediately struck me—and what inspired this thread—is seeing so many of the exact same user names in the "Latest Posts" section who were just as active when I was last here! To the dedicated, long-term, and continuously active members of this community: What keeps you coming back and contributing regularly after all this time? Is it the joy...
