The conversation includes humorous exchanges and references to marine life, with participants expressing personal opinions and preferences.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant introduces themselves and poses questions about the context of "favorite fish," suggesting different categories like eating, racing, or keeping in a pond.
  • Another participant humorously suggests that the choice of fish should depend on size.
  • A participant humorously advocates for the baby guppy as a wise choice.
  • Multiple references to a mini-documentary on fish selection are made, with some participants expressing frustration over being "Rickrolled."
  • One participant lists their favorite fish for aesthetic reasons, including monkfish, anglerfish, and blobfish, and shares images of these fish.
  • Another participant expresses surprise at the blobfish's appearance and shares a news article about its status as a "miserable looking" marine animal facing extinction.
  • A participant defends the blobfish's appearance when submerged in water, noting it does not look as sad as it does out of water.
  • One participant introduces the cookie cutter shark as a new favorite, humorously likening it to a male version of the movie 'Teeth' and asserting that they do not care about the classification of sharks as mammals.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion features a variety of personal preferences and humorous exchanges, with no clear consensus on a single favorite fish or category. Participants express differing opinions on the aesthetic qualities and classifications of various fish.

Contextual Notes

Some participants make humorous or crude observations about fish, and there are references to external content (mini-documentaries and articles) that may not be universally accepted or verified within the discussion.

That's me-speak for "hello I'm new, pleased to meet you all". You see, I speak in tongues just because (yeah, just because!) and then I have to translate it. So, hello!

And my favorite type of fish is...well it depends. Do you mean for eating or for competitive racing (come on, don't tell me no-one in the whole wide world has ever not thought of racing their fish, surely?!) or simply keeping in a pond?

That is all, for this precise moment... watch this spaaaaaaace for more general madness though; I assure you it's way more fun that watching paint dry.

My fish?

For purely aesthetic reasons, of course, these 3:

monkfish (it likes dentists...deliberate ambiguity here)

anglerfish (talk about an underbite!)

In it's defense, this is what it looks like "in" the water.

They don't have crazy looking sad-human characteristics and big noses.

Yup, I know this is 3 months dead now, but I couldn't resist updating because over the last few days happenstance has enlightened to further wonders of marine life that I previously never knew existed, which I thought folks here at physicsforums may find interesting:

I give you:

I'm not going to say what I think it looks like. Suffice it to say it would be a male version of the movie 'Teeth'. I am female. I am allowed to make these crude observations.

Anyway, this is now on my list of favorite fish. Never mind that sharks are technically mammals. I don't care. I likes it and I wants it on my favorite fish list. So there.
