SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating heat loss through a 1m square pane of 6 mm thick glass with a temperature difference of 15°C. The thermal conductivity of glass is specified as k = 0.72 W m-1 K-1. The formula for heat loss is given as Rate of loss of heat = 0.72 W m-1 K-1 x 1 m2 x 15°C / (6 x 10-3 m). The confusion arises regarding the conversion of 6 mm to meters, which is essential for accurate calculations.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of thermal conductivity and its units
  • Basic knowledge of heat transfer principles
  • Ability to convert units (mm to meters)
  • Familiarity with the formula for calculating heat loss
NEXT STEPS
  • Learn about the principles of thermal conductivity in materials
  • Research unit conversion techniques, specifically for metric measurements
  • Explore advanced heat transfer calculations involving different materials
  • Study real-world applications of heat loss calculations in building design
USEFUL FOR

Determine the heat loss through a 1m square pane of 6 mm thick glass for a temperature difference of 15oC.
Thermal conductivity of glass is k = 0.72 W m^-1 K^-1
Solution
Rate of loss of heat = 0.72W m^-1 K^-1 x 1 m^2 x 15oC/(6x10^-3 m )
<--- Ok so I understand everything but I don't understand where my teacher gets 6x10^-3 ?? is not in the question that number.

Please help me
