Can an Inverted V-Tail Provide Sufficient Control for a Model Aircraft?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the feasibility of using an inverted V-tail configuration with ruddervators for controlling a model aircraft, without the inclusion of ailerons or a horizontal stabilizer. Participants confirm that it is indeed possible to achieve controllability with a V-tail alone, despite the instability issues faced by the original poster. The conversation highlights the importance of design considerations in achieving stability and control in model aircraft.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of model aircraft design principles
  • Knowledge of control surface mechanics
  • Familiarity with stability and control theory
  • Experience with V-tail configurations in aerodynamics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research V-tail design principles for model aircraft
  • Explore control surface effectiveness and tuning techniques
  • Investigate stability augmentation systems for model aircraft
  • Learn about ruddervator configurations and their impact on flight dynamics
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, model aircraft designers, hobbyists interested in advanced control surfaces, and anyone facing stability challenges in model aircraft design.

Hi Guys,
I am working on a design trying to control a model through inverted V-tail/ruddervators only. No aileron or horizontal stabilizer. Do you think it is possible as apparently I am facing instability issues. Any guidance in this regard would be helpful.

Thanks

with the limited amount of data you have given us, all I can say is it is possible to have a controlable system with a Vtail olny
