SUMMARY

Galaxies cannot develop two nuclei without undergoing a merger. The consensus in the discussion references a university class website that asserts mergers are the sole mechanism for the formation of multiple galactic nuclei. Observations of galaxies with two nuclei are indicative of past mergers, which are essential for galactic growth.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of galactic structures and formations
  • Familiarity with astronomical observations and imaging techniques
  • Knowledge of galaxy merger processes
  • Basic principles of astrophysics related to star formation
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mechanisms of galaxy mergers and their effects on galactic evolution
  • Explore the role of supermassive black holes in galactic nuclei formation
  • Study the observational techniques used in galaxy imaging
  • Investigate the implications of multiple nuclei on starburst activity in galaxies
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, astrophysics students, and anyone interested in the dynamics of galaxy formation and evolution.

I ask because I think I see two nuclei, can galaxies develop two nuclei without merging?

There are numerous galaxies in that image---which itself is very small. Can't tell.
