Can tenting in 1H NMR indicate proton proximity or arrangement?

If tenting is observed in a ¹H NMR spectrum, I understand what causes the tenting to occur, but can the presence of tenting allow anything be deduced about the proximity or arrangement of the protons responsible?

The amount of tenting involves the difference of the chemical shifts and the scalar coupling. Both can be read off more easily from the position of the peaks than from their intensity, so there is little additional information which can be gained from tenting.
