Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the potential for U-233 to be used as a material for nuclear weapons, comparing it to U-235 and exploring the methods of weaponization, including implosion and gun-type designs. The scope includes theoretical considerations and conflicting views on the feasibility of using U-233 alone without plutonium.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants question whether U-233 can be made into a bomb independently of U-235 or plutonium-239.
  • There are conflicting views on the weaponization of U-233, with some suggesting it can be used similarly to U-235.
  • Participants inquire about the methods of weaponization, specifically whether both implosion and gun-type designs are applicable to U-233.
  • One participant expresses curiosity about the topic without concern for legal implications.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus, as there are multiple competing views regarding the weaponization of U-233 and its comparison to U-235.

TL;DR
Some claim U-233 can, others that you cannot make a bomb out of U-233 without plutonium into bomb? What is true?
Can U-233 only be made into bomb just like U-235? There are conflicting views on whether U-233 (alone without plutonium) can be made into (nuclear)bomb or not.
Further more, can it weaponized both using implosion and guntype or only one of them? Thanks for answer/-s.

I'd reply to your question, but then I'd be put onto the FBI watch list too along with you.

(oops!)

Why do you ask?

I am just curious. I don't fear being on the FBI Watch list since I have nothing to hide.

Can bomb be made with U-233 without presence of U-235 and or plutonium-239?

Of course. Thread closed.
