Consciousness The Ultimate Reality

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the assertion by some physicists, including Tom Campbell, that consciousness is the "Ultimate reality." This claim is supported by the Data Eraser Experiment and references from notable physicists like Max Planck, Niels Bohr, and Werner Heisenberg. However, the conversation critiques this perspective, suggesting that the original reasoning proposed by John von Neumann is outdated and that consciousness does not necessarily need to be involved in interpretations of reality. The consensus leans towards skepticism regarding the necessity of consciousness in understanding physical phenomena.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of quantum physics concepts, particularly interpretations involving consciousness.
  • Familiarity with the Data Eraser Experiment and its implications in quantum mechanics.
  • Knowledge of key physicists and their contributions, including Max Planck, Niels Bohr, and John von Neumann.
  • Basic comprehension of philosophical implications of consciousness in scientific discourse.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Data Eraser Experiment and its significance in quantum mechanics.
  • Explore the interpretations of quantum mechanics proposed by John von Neumann.
  • Investigate the philosophical implications of consciousness in physics.
  • Study critiques of consciousness-based interpretations from contemporary physicists.
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, philosophers, and anyone interested in the intersection of consciousness and quantum mechanics, particularly those examining the validity of consciousness as a fundamental aspect of reality.

Why does some physicists say that consciousness is the "Ultimate reality"? which experiment affirm it? Some like 'Tom Campbell' uses Data Eraser Experiment as proof, and quotes from "Max Planck, Bohr, Heisenberg, etc.. as references

Is it true?
What is "consciousness", anyway?

Because they haven't thought about it hard enough. It was originally proposed by Von Neumann for reasons that seemed valid at the time. But things have moved on and the reason he introduced it no longer applies.

Note - this is not to say conciousness type interpretations are not valid - they are - its this notion it must be involved that is incorrect.

Forget about them. This forum tells what's really going on - not this new age inspired rubbish.

Your guess is as good as mine.
