SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on controlling and reading data from a CDROM drive for a biomedical engineering project. The user, Matt, seeks resources to understand the programming aspects of CDROM drives, specifically how to direct the drive to read data from specific locations on the disc. Recommendations include exploring books and resources that cover CDROM libraries and functions, which are essential for implementing this functionality.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of CDROM drive mechanics and laser technology
  • Basic programming skills in a language that interfaces with hardware
  • Familiarity with CDROM libraries and functions
  • Knowledge of data structures for handling read data
NEXT STEPS
  • Research CDROM drive programming using C or C++
  • Explore resources on CDROM libraries such as ISO 9660
  • Learn about low-level data access techniques for optical media
  • Investigate existing projects or open-source code that interfaces with CDROM drives
USEFUL FOR

Biomedical engineering students, software developers working with hardware interfaces, and anyone interested in optical media data retrieval techniques.

I am college senior in biomedical engineering and am working on a project which will involve the use of a CDROM drive for a senior design project. For the project what i will need to be able to take a CD and be able to tell the drive to point to a specific spot on the cd and read the data. I am in the process of trying to understand CDROM drives and how they work. I understand the concepts of how they use laser scatter and and nano Fab part of a CD but I have no clue on the programing.

What I would like is to know if anyone knows any books, websites or jorunal article which may help me understand how to control where the drive reads and gather the data it reads.

Thanks Matt

Just head over to Borders and Barnes and Noble and browse. Any book should have some reference to cdrom libraries or functions.
