SUMMARY

The discussion centers around the myth of "Dark Suckers," a concept allegedly reported by CNN regarding a Bell Labs discovery that suggests light sources absorb darkness instead of emitting radiant energy. Participants unanimously dismiss this claim as nonsensical, emphasizing that it contradicts established scientific understanding of light. The notion of "Dark Suckers" is identified as a long-standing joke rather than a credible scientific theory.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics principles regarding light and energy propagation.
  • Familiarity with scientific skepticism and the importance of evidence in validating claims.
  • Knowledge of common scientific myths and misconceptions.
  • Awareness of media literacy to critically evaluate news sources.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of light propagation in physics.
  • Explore the history of scientific myths and how they spread in popular culture.
  • Learn about the role of evidence in scientific discourse and debunking myths.
  • Investigate media literacy techniques to assess the credibility of news reports.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for science enthusiasts, educators, and anyone interested in understanding the intersection of media, science, and public perception of scientific concepts.

A friend said he saw something on CNN about a recent discovery at bell labs. That a light source, instead of propagating radiant energy actually sucks up darkness. I had to laugh, so here I am asking the pros. Personally, I say nonsense.

The onus is not on you or us to debunk- it's on your friend to come up with a reliable source or evidence for his claims.

However, people here can and will confirm that the story is inconsistent with what we know about light.
