Designing a Windmill for Maximum Power

Click For Summary
To design a windmill for maximum power output in a competition, focus on optimizing the blade design and orientation on the rotor, as all participants will use the same gears and dynamo. PVC pipes are being considered as a material for the blades due to their availability and lightweight properties. Researching modern wind turbine designs can provide valuable insights into effective blade shapes and angles. The windmill will be tested using a table fan to simulate wind conditions. Prioritizing aerodynamic efficiency and material strength will be crucial for achieving the best performance.

Homework Statement

I need to design a windmill in a competition that can produce the maximum power given every participant has the same gears and dynamo. so basically we have to concentrate on the blade's design. What is the best design and its orientation on the rotor. Also what type of material should be useful to make such blade. the windmill will be tested with a table fan.

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

I m thinking of using PVC pipes to make the foil. For the shape and orientation I m quite blur.

I would take a careful look at the design of modern wind turbines.

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
