AI Thread Summary
The age of the universe can be estimated using Hubble's Constant, which describes the rate of expansion of the universe. If Hubble's Constant is assumed to be around 10 km/s/Mpc, calculations suggest the universe could be approximately 14 billion years old. A higher value, such as 20 km/s/Mpc, would imply a younger universe. The calculations involve using the inverse of the Hubble Constant to determine the time since the Big Bang. Understanding these concepts can help clarify the relationship between the expansion rate and the universe's age.

Please can somebody explain how the age of the universe can be determined using Hubbles Constant?
If the constant is taken as 10km/s (just for the sake of easiness), how can this be figured out using calculations?

I appreciate any help!

age of universe

Thankyou for your help but what you gave me is a bit over my head.
"I have been given the task the Hubble constant is thought to be in the range 10 - 20 km/sec ^-1.
What age range does this imply for the universe?"
I am not sure where to begin...

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...
