Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around recommendations for books that provide a solid understanding of quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, and modern physics. Participants seek resources that cover foundational concepts, historical context, and comprehensive theoretical explanations.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire for books that cover quantum mechanics from a foundational level, including historical context, and mentions Schaums Outline as insufficient for theoretical depth.
  • Another participant seeks similar recommendations for classical mechanics, indicating a preference for resources that start from basic concepts and provide a thorough theoretical background.
  • A third participant requests suggestions for books on modern physics that also cover fundamental concepts comprehensively.
  • A later reply suggests Cohen-Tannoudji's books as a good introduction to quantum mechanics but advises that historical context may not be essential.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for comprehensive resources in quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, and modern physics, but there are differing opinions on the importance of historical context in studying these subjects.

Contextual Notes

Some participants' requests may depend on specific definitions of "rock solid concepts" and the level of detail they seek in theoretical explanations. There is also a lack of consensus on the necessity of historical context in understanding quantum mechanics.

Who May Find This Useful

Readers interested in foundational physics concepts, particularly those new to quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, or modern physics, may find this discussion helpful.

Dear Users
Hello! MY First Post
I want to make rock solid concepts in Quantum Mechanics General not any specific branch of Quantum Mechanics like Quantum Computing,Perturbation Theory etc etc Schaums Outline is good one but a little lack of more theory any suggestions Which Book will do that or two books that will tell me Quantum MEchanics from its history and starts with abc... of quantum mechanics for example University Physics is a complete book for general physics like this any book

Modern Physics Book

Dear Users!
Best and Complete concept giving books of Modern Physics from its abc... help me so that i get that book
ThankX

Cohen-Tannoudji QM 1+2

Good introduction. You shouldn't care too much about the history of QM though IMHO.
