SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the uncertainty faced by a high school senior regarding a career in the science field. The participant expresses a preference for biology and chemistry while disliking Earth science and physics. Respondents emphasize that it is common for students to explore various science majors during their first year of college, as introductory courses often overlap. They recommend starting with a major that aligns with the student's interests, allowing for exploration and potential changes in direction as new fields are discovered.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic biology and chemistry concepts
  • Familiarity with college course structures and major requirements
  • Awareness of career options in the science field
  • Knowledge of the importance of exploring interests in early college years
NEXT STEPS
  • Research various biology-related majors and their career prospects
  • Explore introductory courses in chemistry and biology at local colleges
  • Investigate career paths in healthcare, environmental science, and research
  • Learn about the process of changing majors and its implications in college
USEFUL FOR

In just a few days i will be a senior in high school. so far I am undecided on a career path. i know i want to do something in the science field but i don't know what. i loved biology and some parts of chemistry. i didnt care for Earth science or physics to much. I am looking for a career that i can enjoy and make some decent money in. does anyone have any ideas. anything may help. thanks!

Well, the good news is you don't have to decide right away, because for a lot of science majors, the first year courses are very similar. So perhaps you should set your course for something that interests you (sounds like biology?), and take the courses required for that major. Chances are, in your first year or two of college, you'll stumble upon some field that really interests you.

I know students want to know what direction to go before they start college, but in fact, most people don't. In fact it's not uncommon to change majors more than once, in your early years.

Think of it as a time to explore your options!
