Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the use of EFD and other CAD-based CFD software, particularly in relation to Pro Engineer. Participants explore the suitability of various software options for thermo and fluid dynamic simulations in a product design context.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the use of EFD for thermo and fluid dynamic simulations as an add-on to Pro Engineer, expressing uncertainty about its pros and cons.
  • Another participant mentions their company uses ANSYS, highlighting its versatility and support for coupled physics analysis, although they do not focus heavily on CFD.
  • A different participant states they use CFDesign, also as an add-on for Pro/E, indicating an alternative option for CFD software.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple software options without reaching a consensus on the best choice. There are competing views on the effectiveness and suitability of different CFD tools.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include potential undiscovered pros and cons of EFD, as well as varying experiences with different software packages that may influence recommendations.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals or companies considering CFD software options, particularly those already using Pro Engineer or involved in product design and analysis.

Hi,

I just wanted to know if anyone uses EFD for doing thermo and/or fluid dynamic simulations. In particular, as an addon to Pro Engineer.

My company is looking at getting some CFD type software and seeing that we already use ProE for drawing, I though this might be a good option, but I'm not sure if it has any pros and cons that can only be discovered after using the program.

We design various products, so it needs to be flexible. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help

My company uses ANSYS, which is a very versatile and well supported FEA package from what I have seen. We don't do a lot of CFD, but we do a lot of coupled physics analysis.

We use, among other things, CFDesign which is an add on for Pro/E.

Thanks for the help, i'll look into those
