Electrical or Computer Engineering

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the decision between pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CpRE). The participant expresses a strong interest in circuitry and energy systems, particularly solar panel development, while lacking experience in programming and computer work. Responses indicate that Electrical Engineering aligns more closely with the participant's interests, especially given the overlap in core curricula between EE and CpRE.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic circuitry concepts
  • Familiarity with energy systems, particularly renewable energy sources
  • Knowledge of the core curricula in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering
  • Awareness of the fields of network and information security
NEXT STEPS
  • Research solar panel development technologies and innovations
  • Explore the fundamentals of Electrical Engineering principles
  • Investigate the overlap between Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering curricula
  • Learn about network and information security basics
USEFUL FOR

Prospective engineering students, particularly those interested in circuitry and renewable energy systems, as well as individuals exploring career paths in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

Greetings.

I know what both electrical and computer engineering entail as majors.

I just wanted to get some feelers on what some people think would fit me best.

I've always been really interested in circuitry and taking apart small devices. I don't really have any experience working on computers or doing programming, so I'm not entirely sure on how I feel about those subjects.

The network/information security field seems pretty interesting, but I am far more interested in learning about different energy systems. Solar panel development is one field of particular interest to me.

Which one (EE or CpRE) seems to align more with my interest??

It would seem like electrical engineering suits you best. There is often a lot of overlap at least in the core curricula between EE and CE.

Sounds like EE is the one for you.
