SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the search for an equation that links all fundamental constants, including the electron charge, gravitational constant, Planck's constant, speed of light, and electron mass, in a dimensionless relationship. Participants reference several equations such as the fine structure equation, Drake equation, and Hawking radiation temperature equation, but none satisfy the original query. The discussion highlights the challenge of locating a specific dimensionless relationship among these constants, particularly in the context of cosmology.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of fundamental physical constants such as electron charge and gravitational constant.
  • Familiarity with equations in cosmology, including the fine structure equation and Drake equation.
  • Knowledge of Hawking radiation and its significance in theoretical physics.
  • Basic comprehension of dimensionless quantities in physics.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the fine structure constant and its implications in quantum mechanics.
  • Explore the derivation and applications of the Drake equation in astrophysics.
  • Study Hawking radiation and its relationship to black hole thermodynamics.
  • Investigate dimensionless constants and their role in unifying physical theories.
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, cosmologists, and students interested in theoretical physics and the relationships between fundamental constants.

Folks,

I remember once seeing an equation that linked all the important fundamental constants - electron charge/alpha, gravitational constant, planks constant, speed of light, electron mass etc - in a dimensionless relationship. But for the life of me I cannot find it -google doesn't know everything yet. It may have the answer but it doesn't know how to get it to me.. Can anyone help?

Thanks

J.

Thanks guys, but those aren't quite what I'm looking for. I may be imagining it, it was a long time ago, but I vaguely remember from cosmology there was a relationship between the physical constants that was dimensionless. I've wikipedia'd and googled and not found it. Thanks for your help.

Probably wrong but I saw a video where he mentions the special constants and its a cosmology video might not have the equation your looking for as it seemed to be about converting the units however you might find it in one of his excellent videos.
