I remember reading once that the lunar landing module was a totally original concept but I'd disagree as it seems to me to be an obvious adaptation of the shore boats ships have used for hundreds of years.

I do not think it is possible to have a completely new idea. All discoveries and inventions seem to arise from small steps building on knowledge already accumulated.
 
I invented the Tootsie Roll Blow Pop. :devil: I had a dream about a tootsie roll pop that had bubble gum instead of tootsie roll in the middle. I woke up thinking that would be absolutely gross and no one would actually buy one.

Then some time later Tootsie Roll came out with the blow pop.
 
I invent stuff in the kitchen - mostly sauces and marinades, but that's hardly "new" since good cooks do it all the time. I'd love to participate in one of those cooking competitions where the cooks don't know what ingredients are available until the competition starts. Many of my best sauces and marinades started out this way - "Hmm, let's see what we've got for ingredients...OK, now what can I do with 'em?" My marinade/basting sauce for grilled jumbo shrimp came together in about 5 minutes during one of these sessions, and I haven't changed the recipe one bit since the first version - my wife would throw a fit!

My pizza sauce took a few tries before I got it to its present form, but that's another recipe that is "untouchable" by spousal decree.

You can't get a PhD degree without it. My professor told me my ideas were good and original. Unfortunately, the good ones weren't original and the original ones weren't good.

As weird as that is its probably been thought of by that guy Heston Blumenthal that invented snail porridge and smoky bacon and egg ice cream.

I invented the Stilton and cherry cake, make a normal cake batter with no sugar and substitute butter for Stilton, add half tea spoon cayenne pepper, quarter tea spoon salt.

Good for the waist line:smile:

What about the (lifter) that was a new way of (flight) levitation.

Ok I will bite. I came up with this idea several years ago. Its a quite simple marketing gimick. I have never shared this with anyone, and I will never do anything with it so I throw it out to you...Microwave popcorn. No really.. You know those bags it comes in?? Well they blow up like balloons right. So how about basketball shaped ones for the nba finals..hockey puck shaped ones for the Lord Stanlys Cup Or football shaped ones for the superbowl and Grey cup.. I am sure the Brits would like soccer ball shaped ones for soccer,,,how about heart shaped ones for valentines day and so on and so on...How about a fat Santa full of popcorn...What do you think...P.S. If you make millions...call me...lol I have had a few inventions in my day..Pretty sure I invented the keyless drill chuck when i was 14,,I just told the wrong person...

I was watching American Inventor the other night, oh my. But there was one really cool invention.

One of my favorite SNL skits was the spoof commercial having the punchline: It's a floor wax and a dessert topping.

In line with the sports thinking, how about a couch with a built-in refrigerator for beer. Or, interactive sports events where you choose the ending.

They already have those. I guess you haven't shopped for furniture in awhile. Even a single lounge chair has a refrigerator for a 6 pack.
