Find constant speed using mass and power

Click For Summary
To find the constant speed of a forklift lifting a 613.0 kg mass with a power output of 950 W, the relationship between power, work, and force is utilized. The equations P = W/Δt and W = Fapp*Δd are key to solving the problem. By recognizing that the gravitational force (Fg = mg) acts on the mass, the power can be expressed as P = (mg * Δd) / Δt. Rearranging this leads to the conclusion that speed (v) can be isolated and calculated. The problem is ultimately solved by applying these principles correctly.

Find constant speed using mass and power [SOLVED]

Homework Statement

A 613.0 kg mass is placed on a forklift that can generate 950 W of power. What is the constant speed of the forklift while lifting this load?

Homework Equations

P = W/▲t
W=Fapp*▲d
Fg=mg

The Attempt at a Solution

I am not sure where to go from here, I can't rearrange P = W/▲t to solve for t without having work. I can't find W=Fapp*▲d without d or by rearranging P. I can't find d with the variables given or by rearranging W. Any help is appreciated!

P=(Fapp*▲d)/▲t
P=((mg)*▲d/▲t)

note v=▲d/▲t
insert values and isolate for v

Thanks! Can't believe I overlooked that. Question is solved

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
