Discussion Overview

The discussion focuses on finding inexpensive textbooks that contain quality physics problems and solutions suitable for practice. Participants are exploring options across various physics topics and levels, including classical physics, electromagnetism, fluid dynamics, thermal physics, waves, optics, and atomic/nuclear physics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about inexpensive books with quality physics problems, specifying a preference for older editions and a substantial number of problems per topic.
  • Another participant asks for clarification on the educational level and whether calculus is involved, indicating the importance of these factors in recommendations.
  • A later reply suggests checking copyright rules and provides a resource for accessing Russian/Soviet era problem books, recommending specific titles like Serway Physics and University Physics for their problem quantity.
  • Another participant shares their positive experience with the REA Physics Problem Solver and Schaum's 3000 Solved Problems in Physics, noting their affordability and value.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have not reached a consensus on specific textbook recommendations, and multiple viewpoints regarding suitable resources remain present.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not specified the exact educational level or the depth of calculus required for the problems, which may affect the suitability of the suggested resources.

Hi, is there an inexpensive book with some quality pencil & paper physics problems (& solutions) that I can do for practice? Even an older textbook edition would be fine as long as the problems are good quality. I'd really like 40-50 or more problems per physics topic.

Thank-you.

P.S. Please only recommend me books that you've used.

What level? High school? College/university? With or without calculus?

Either with or without calculus is fine.

Classical Physics (Kinematics, Newton, Work/Power/Energy, Rotational Motion, etc.)
Electric & Magnetic Forces, Fields, Potential
Fluids
Thermal
Waves & Optics
Atomic/Nuclear Physics

And if the source continues after these then that's fine -- because I can refer back to the book in advanced topics for added value.

Thank-you

check your country's copyright rule and go here mirtitles.org all Russian/Soviet era problem books Irodov to Pinsky can be found in PDF. format.

And if you want 40-50 problems a chapter then Serway Physics is good and for 100 above University Physics, Ginacoli, Resnick Halliday may be the best for Calculus based Physics.
