Great ebass playing

First time I noticed that James Jamerson played very few low notes. Maybe it was because the equipment of the day wasn't much good are producing those notes. The ebass amplifier hadn't really been invented yet. Even if it had been, cheapo transistor radio couldn't reproduce such.

Bandmaid's first hit. MISA's bass part exposed by removing the guitars. My that sounds nice. The drummer is no slouch either.



At the time the singer strained. Shortly after Thrill she appeared on NHK [Japanese TV] with only piano accompaniment. Stage fright caused a horrifying meltdown, couldn't sing due to nerves. Has yet to try that again.

Lost her voice during a world tour and had an operation. Has since taken lessons and practiced and now has skill.

I grew up near Motown. This sort of thing inspired me to take up the ebass. My what a poet he was.

To get that sound you have to have that foam rubber mute. It used to be that all Fender basses were sold with one built into the bridge cover.

From 2002. Geddy sounds like he's using a pick but not. Roundwound bass strings rip up your fingers and he pulls those strings HARD. He must have wicked calluses. If I tried that I'd be lucky to last thirty seconds. He uses only one finger on his right hand which is pretty unusual.
