How did you find PF?
google
Hello! My name is Ivan, and I'm thrilled to join the Physics Forums community. I'm an electrical engineer with a solid background in physics, and I'm planning to launch a dedicated physics category on my website, [URL redacted by the Mentors]. I've come here to sharpen my knowledge, engage in discussions, and gather insights to create high-quality physics calculators for my site.

In my free time, I enjoy tinkering with electronics, reading about emerging technologies, and exploring outdoor activities. Looking forward to learning from and contributing to this great forum!

Best regards,

I actually think your website promotion there may fly under the radar but I'm not a moderator. Maybe you're one of those rare ones who read the rules before posting, because I sure didn't, and that didn't go so well! :woot:

Welcome!

hi, I didn't plan any promotion, and absolutely everything in the above topic is correct. Thank you for the welcomewishes ;)

Smooth operator you! Nah, I'm joking, really. Welcome!

And cool website btw.

@ibrkic0 -- it's just a bit too spammy for a new member to be posting links to their personal website. After you have a couple hundred posts at PF, it will be less of an issue. Welcome to PF.

I had an odd premonition.... A little too... aggressive. Although the site in itself probably wouldn't have offended coming later as part of a natural discussion. :frown:

EDIT: Or yes, after a cpl hundred posts...

EDIT2: But yeah: Welcome nonetheless! :woot:

The rules are sorta harsh here but for good reasons. I can understand why you want to share your website, and, if you ask me, it is a nice site, which plugs nicely into the theme here. Only….

As berkeman said, promoting it in your first post does come of as rather aggressive.

There’s this unwritten rule (in life mind, not on the site): Better underwhelm now, then impress later. Contrary to popular belief one often get a second chance to make a first impression!

I’m being sincere, so please don’t mistake my antics for arrogance. I’ve effed up a lot believe me. I’m still here though and I sincerely hope you’ll be too!

You'll get those couple hundred in no time. I'm sure.
In the meantime, make sure to adhere to the rules :)

Actually the closest I can find in the rules (on an admittedly quick scan is this one):

  • Advertising & Spam:
Advertising for personal gain of any kind is not permitted in any forum. Commercial spam will result in an immediate ban. Posting science website links will be permitted occasionally, but will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

It was a rather close case. But the point here seemed to be the agressiveness. I saw the OPs website though and it was a collection of small applications for conversion between scientific quantities, eg. celcius and fahrenheit, and monetary units etc. There were no ads and no mention of payment of any kind, so the ruling was a little hard if you ask me. But such is the place.

And I realize the decision was made so further discussion is moot and probably counter-productive. Just wanted to mention that I don't think the OP did it in bad faith.

EDIT: I know “science website” isn’t really applicable here so I don’t know why I bolded that, or indeed why I keep coming back here. Count me out.

Agreed, and that's why it was just a gentle 0-point warning and not an infraction.
