How Can You Start Learning Electronics as an Electrical Engineering Student?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Electrical engineering students seeking to learn electronics should leverage their existing experience with Arduino and consider engaging in hands-on projects. The discussion highlights the importance of practical applications over theoretical reading, noting that "The Art of Electronics" serves better as a reference than a primary learning resource. Participants recommend exploring various Arduino projects to maintain interest and enhance skills, particularly for those who have previously built robots.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of Arduino programming
  • Familiarity with electronic components like the 555 timer
  • Knowledge of C programming fundamentals
  • Experience with robotics projects
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore advanced Arduino projects to deepen practical skills
  • Learn C programming through online courses or tutorials
  • Investigate other electronics books that focus on hands-on learning
  • Participate in online forums or communities focused on electronics projects
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for electrical engineering students, hobbyists interested in electronics, and anyone looking to enhance their practical skills in building electronic projects.

So I am an electric engineer student. Still taking my prerequisite classes (this semester I am taking Calculus II, Chemistry I, Economics for Engineers and Communication for engineers) but i have a bit of free time and want to start learning about electronics..

In the pass i have built a small robot using arduino (http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=14402), i have done multiple things with arduino but that was the biggest.. I also bought an STK500 AVR board, but since i don't know a lot of C i got bored and trough it in a box, i also did a bit of work with 555 (basic timer), i stared reading "The Art of Electronics" but got bored in chapter one, so i stopped reading it..

So what should i do? what you guys recommend??

What seems interesting to you? You have experience w/ the arduino -- there are tons of different projects you could do with one!

Also "The Art of Electronics" is more a a reference book rather than a fun read. Useful, and also practical if you're looking for some way to put yourself to sleep.

Also your robot looks really cool!
