Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating profit from selling T-shirts, focusing on a specific scenario where an investment is made, and shirts are sold at a set price. The scope includes mathematical reasoning related to profit calculation.

Discussion Character

  • Mathematical reasoning

Main Points Raised

  • One participant presents a formula for calculating profit based on the selling price of T-shirts, the number sold, and the initial investment.
  • Some participants confirm the correctness of the profit calculation provided by the first participant, agreeing that profit is revenue minus costs.
  • Another participant expresses a desire for clarification on additional questions they believe were posted.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is agreement among some participants regarding the correctness of the profit calculation, but there is uncertainty about the existence and content of other questions mentioned by one participant.

Contextual Notes

You invest in a company that purchases T-shirts and resells them for a profit. You invest 180 dollars and sell each shirt for 10.25. If you sell 26 shirts, what is your profit?

My Work:

Let P = profit

P = (price of each shirt)(total amount of shirts sold) - (amount invested)

P = (10.25)(26) - 180

P = 266.50 - 180

P = $86.50

Is this correct?

Yes, profit is revenue less costs, and you seem to have computed this correctly. (Yes)
