SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on solutions for fixing sagging soccer goals constructed from 4-inch drainage pipe, measuring 24 feet long and 8 feet tall. Users suggest two primary methods: rotating the crossbar 180 degrees and adding couplings to allow for upward bowing, or using a support under the middle of the goal to counteract sagging when not in use. Both methods aim to maintain the goal's structural integrity while allowing for mobility and usability during practice sessions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic construction techniques
  • Familiarity with drainage pipe specifications
  • Knowledge of support structures and load distribution
  • Experience with DIY home improvement projects
NEXT STEPS
  • Research techniques for reinforcing PVC structures
  • Explore methods for creating adjustable supports for sports equipment
  • Learn about the properties of different pipe materials for construction
  • Investigate design principles for portable sports goals
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for DIY enthusiasts, parents building sports equipment, and coaches looking to maintain or improve soccer goal structures for practice and training purposes.

A few years ago I built a soccer goal for my son out of 4 inch drainage pipe. It is regulation size which I believe is about 24 ft long and 8 ft tall. It has served okay for his practices but the top crossbar has started to Sag due to the long expanse 24 feet. Any easy or ingenious way to fix the sagging? Like a guy wire or something? I don't have a tree or anything to attach it to so it needs to work with just the goal itself. Any help is appreciated!

Or replace the horizontal pipe which worked for a while or just prop up the middle with some wood? Is the goal for practicing shooting on goal or practicing being a goalie? Do you need to move it?

Can you stuff a 2x4, metal pipe or something similar through the tube to straighten and stiffen it?

Two ideas:
1) Saw it off near the ends, rotate 180 degrees, then add a coupling at each end. It will now bow upwards and gradually sag to level.

2) Shove a support under the middle whenever it is not in use. Make the support long enough to bow it upwards far enough to start developing a reverse sag.

Here's a video of a miniature goal but it has an interesting bar feature that could support your 24 ft bar.

Its for both. I do need to be able to move it to mow around it...
