How to stay in touch with physics in a gap year?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

To maintain engagement with physics during a 1.5-year gap before formal studies, individuals should focus on reading relevant books and participating in online forums. Online resources, particularly the MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) for calculus-based physics, provide valuable lectures and materials. Engaging with these resources will reinforce foundational knowledge and prepare students for future academic pursuits in physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of calculus and higher mathematics
  • Familiarity with physics concepts from high school
  • Access to online learning platforms
  • Ability to engage in online discussions and forums
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore MIT OpenCourseWare for calculus-based physics lectures
  • Read foundational physics books such as "Fundamentals of Physics" by Halliday, Resnick, and Walker
  • Participate in online physics forums for discussion and clarification of concepts
  • Watch YouTube channels dedicated to physics education, such as Veritasium or MinutePhysics
USEFUL FOR

Students planning to study physics, educators seeking supplementary resources, and anyone interested in maintaining their physics knowledge during a gap period.

Hello,

I just finished school and I want to study physics, but I have to wait about 1.5 years until I can start with it. What would you recommend to stay in touch with physics during that time? Reading books would be the thing I came up with, would you say that reading in forums like this would help as well?

Greetings,

m. flux

I'd also search the web for online physics lectures. I believe MIT has a good series of videos for calculus-based physics, if you're familiar enough with the higher math.

Thank you, that is a nice idea. Calculus Physics sounds like a good followup to what I have been doing in school.

Edit: Found something: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/
