SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the challenges of the Intermediate Mechanics course, particularly the rigorous nature of the Mech/math boot camp. The participant is preparing by reviewing "Classical Mechanics" by Kleppner and Kolenkow (K&K) and working through problems in "Physics for Scientists and Engineers" by Marion and Thornton. The consensus indicates that while K&K is highly regarded, Marion and Thornton is criticized for its difficult problems. Success in the course is achievable by mastering problems from both texts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Classical Mechanics knowledge from K&K
  • Problem-solving skills in physics
  • Familiarity with mathematical techniques in physics
  • Understanding of the course structure and expectations
NEXT STEPS
  • Review problem sets from "Classical Mechanics" by Kleppner and Kolenkow
  • Practice challenging problems from "Physics for Scientists and Engineers" by Marion and Thornton
  • Seek additional resources or forums for Intermediate Mechanics support
  • Develop a study schedule to manage course workload effectively
USEFUL FOR

Students enrolled in Intermediate Mechanics, particularly those seeking to excel in challenging physics courses, as well as educators looking for insights into effective study strategies and resource recommendations.

Yah so I here Intermediate Mechanics is grueling Mech/math boot camp to say the least.
Frankly, I am terrified. I have began by reviewing reg mech from K&K. Also reading and doing the problems in Morion and Thornton and doing Math Physics. I really want an A in this class. From what I hear, the prof. I will be getting in the fall isn't the greatest.
So I desperately need words of wisdom.

k&k is an excellent book. marion and thornton is a terrible book with asinine problems. if you can do problems from both you should be fine.
