SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the interpretation of (n,n*3) and (n,3n) ENDF charts, which represent Inelastic levels and Threshold Reactions, respectively. The (n,n*3) notation indicates a neutron interaction resulting in three emitted neutrons, while (n,3n) denotes a threshold reaction involving the emission of three neutrons. For detailed examples, users can refer to the provided links, including a specific PDF from LANL and a resource from the NNDC for further clarification.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of ENDF (Evaluated Nuclear Data File) charts
  • Familiarity with neutron interaction terminology
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear reactions
  • Access to nuclear data resources like LANL and NNDC
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the ENDF format specifications for detailed chart interpretation
  • Explore neutron interaction mechanisms in nuclear physics
  • Read "Introduction to Nuclear Reactions" for foundational concepts
  • Investigate software tools for visualizing ENDF data
USEFUL FOR

Nuclear physicists, researchers in nuclear engineering, and students studying neutron interactions and nuclear data analysis will benefit from this discussion.

1. What is the meaning of (n,n*3) and (n,3n)?

(n,n*3) is shown in ENDF charts for Inelastic levels and (n,3n) is shown for Threshold Reactions. For an example, see http://t2.lanl.gov/data/n7-pdf/sm/149.pdf

2. Also can you refer me to a book that explains how to interpret these types of charts?
