is gauss elimination method same as gauss jordan method in matrices ?

I could be wrong, but I think that Gauss-Jordan is when you eliminate terms "upwards" as well as down. Gaussian elimination just goes halfway (that is, just down) and then you actually write out the equations and algebraically solve.
