Is it possible for airplane radars to scan minefields?

Is it possible for airplane radars to scan minefields? If we were to take an airplane radar out of the plane and brought it back to land in a vicinity of a minefield, would it scan the mines that are in the minefield? Would it be able to scan because mines are not on the surface, but buried underneath? If it is not possible, what modifications are necessary to make the radar to scan those objects like mines because airplane radars are made to scan much larger objects like planes.
