Hello, I've been a programmer for nearly 20 years and am starting on a self-study program to relearn subjects I'm afraid I've long forgotten. While I'm aiming to cover as wide a breadth as my time will allow, my interests will probably steer me towards the (structural and electronic) engineering fields. I hope to learn from other members here and make some friends in the process.

Welcome to PF!

What are your fields on interest?

What programming family?

For the last 25 years itwas java but the previous 20 years was macro assembler, Fortran-Y, Cobol and then C/C++ and now it's python, C/C++ with CUDA and OpenMP.

Welcome to "the family"! Retired programmer here too. Catching up is a lot of work. I'm aiming for building an electronic gadget (Raman-spectrometer.... see my signature for my non-functional website which is a work in progress as I made a design failure in the beginning; and yeah, I know it's a mess.) I'm about to give up and just buy a complete Raman-spectroscopy set. If I have to start from scratch I'm gonna have to build a knife-edge laser diagnostic thingie too, so I might as well just swallow the camel....

It'll still be cheaper. It's almost impossible to make it more expensive that's for sure!

EDIT: C/C++ here too. Embedded, legacy, you name it.

EDIT2: Don't know if this is public, but his is just one of my messy projects done for fun and to kill time. I understand if you wonder how much free time I have:
