Hi guys.

I am currently working on my bachlor thesis in mechatronics. Myself, and two fellowstudents, have the task of designing and building a observation ROV, and i am wondering if some of you have some experience conserning a couple of things.

Out plan is to use Labview to control and regulate the system, using an ethernet DAQ in the ROV. We are planning to order a DAQ from LabJack (http://labjack.com/ue9" ) and I am wondering if this device is ease to control via ethernet using labview? Or if any of you know of a better DAQ to preform this task.

Secondly, we are planning to use a Xbox 360 controller as a user interface, connected to the control computer using standard USB. I found a program example in labview (http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-6036") for reading the input data (i think), but i can't seem to get it to respond to my xbox controller. Any ideas?

Our Freshmen engineering classes use a "Boe-Bot" to learn about mechanization controls. They have a education kit I suggest you look into. It performs "a lot" like an ROV and cost several times less. As far as the xbox controller goes, It should be possible to adapt any analog input to some "output" as long as the programming in the controller is correct. The programming is something you will most likely have to write yourself. :(
