SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on learning how to effectively use an oscilloscope for transient response experiments, specifically in the context of analyzing an RC circuit. The user expressed difficulty in manipulating the oscilloscope to obtain the expected signals from the circuit. A helpful resource was shared, detailing the operation of oscilloscopes and measurement techniques for RC circuits, which significantly aided the user's understanding.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of RC circuits and their transient response.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscope terminology and functions.
  • Knowledge of signal measurement techniques.
  • Ability to interpret oscilloscope waveforms.
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the operation manual for oscilloscopes, focusing on signal acquisition techniques.
  • Learn about the transient response of RC circuits in detail.
  • Practice measuring voltage and time constants using an oscilloscope.
  • Explore online tutorials or courses specifically on oscilloscope usage for circuit analysis.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for physics students, electronics enthusiasts, and laboratory technicians who are learning to use oscilloscopes for circuit analysis and transient response experiments.

Well, I just registered in the Physics forum. One of my senior friend suggested the side once. And, well, I needed some help regarding oscilloscope. And I didn't know where to turn. I was doing an experiment in our lab which goes by "The transient response of an RC circuit".Here I was given the device called oscilloscope for the first time ever.and I kind of have absolute no idea about it.I tried to bring on some signals but they were apparently no where near an RC circuit response. The Instructor weren't really helpful. And I am at a fix. I know the theories of them. But just don't understand the way how I should manipulate the oscilloscope in my favorable signal.I just wanted to know where can I learn about using oscilloscope...

Thanks in Advance

The above link gives a brief tutorial on both RC circuits and oscilloscope operation.

It even shows how to measure the output of an RC circuit with an oscilloscope.
