Interesting article. If I were asked about other forms of the letter "g", I would have first thought of capitals vs. lower case and then about cursive forms which also have descender loops. Interestingly, the descender loop is on the other side (right side) of the letter from the type set version.

Interesting observation on recognizing, reading and writing letter 'g'. Old enought to have learned cursive writing as well as printed in grammar school, I recall several students had trouble writing cursive 'g' and other lower case letters such as 'q' with "tails" extending below the line.

Teachers and visiting testers found a correlation among those students less comfotable with geometric intuition and reasoning. Continuing the form below the writing line caused a sort of reset as if starting a new letter.

Old enough to have learned to write by hand - including cursive - but I still mange to fail the test in picking the correct one of four. I just literally don't now which is right without peeking:

I can quickly , yes quickly choose 1 and 3 as the best possibilities because the upper tail is at the right hand side. After that, I am not really sure because they both look acceptably good or normal.
