SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on distinguishing between different types of magnetic structures using neutron diffraction data. Specifically, it addresses the differentiation between A-type and C-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) structures based on their effects on nearby magnetic dipoles and the resulting neutron diffraction patterns. The paper "High Pressure Effects on the Crystal and Magnetic Structure of Pr0.1Sr0.9MnO3 Manganite" by N.T. Dang et al. is recommended for further insights, as it provides neutron diffraction spectra and analysis for various AFM structures.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of neutron diffraction techniques
  • Knowledge of antiferromagnetic (AFM) structures
  • Familiarity with magnetic dipole interactions
  • Basic concepts of crystallography
NEXT STEPS
  • Read "High Pressure Effects on the Crystal and Magnetic Structure of Pr0.1Sr0.9MnO3 Manganite" by N.T. Dang et al.
  • Explore neutron diffraction analysis methods for magnetic structures
  • Investigate the differences between A-type, C-type, and G-type AFM structures
  • Study the impact of pressure on magnetic properties in materials
USEFUL FOR

Researchers in condensed matter physics, materials scientists, and anyone involved in the study of magnetic materials and their properties through neutron diffraction techniques.

How we can distinguish between different type of magnetic structures by simply looking at neutron diffraction data??

Physics news on Phys.org
By the patterns the neutron make when detected of course.
Different structures will deflect the neutrons in different ways.
I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific.

how we can distinguish between a-type and c-type magnetic structure?

The magnetic structure types are defined according to how the affect nearby magnetic dipoles right?
So describe the effect ... work out what that means for neutrons.

Google “High Pressure Effects on the Crystal and Magnetic Structure of Pr0.1Sr0.9MnO3 Manganite” N.T. Dang et al. This paper may give you some insight to your questions. They show neutron diffraction spectra of A-type AFM, C-type AFM and G-type AFM along with analysis.
