SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on analyzing the physics depicted in the movie "Mission: Impossible." Key scenes identified include the helicopter chase in the tunnel, the water restaurant, and Tom Cruise's infiltration of the CIA office to steal the NOC list. Specific physics concepts are highlighted, such as sound detection through broken glass and the mechanics of the elevator scene. Participants are encouraged to provide examples of both good and bad physics to support their analysis.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics concepts, including sound waves and mechanics.
  • Familiarity with cinematic techniques and their impact on realism.
  • Knowledge of specific scenes from "Mission: Impossible" for contextual analysis.
  • Ability to critically evaluate film content against scientific principles.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the physics of sound detection in "Mission: Impossible" scenes.
  • Analyze the mechanics of helicopter flight in confined spaces.
  • Examine the portrayal of gravity and motion in action sequences.
  • Explore the use of visual effects and their scientific accuracy in film.
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, film critics analyzing cinematic realism, and anyone interested in the intersection of science and film production.

Mission: Impossible -- The Movie

i am currently working on a summer assignment that involves me finding 2 examples of good and bad physics and back it up with concepts/laws.

The movie i was given was Mission Impossible. The scenes i think have physics are when the helicopter is in the tunnel, the water restaurant, and when tom cruise goes to steal the NOC list in the CIA office.

Any help would be appreciated. thnx :!)

There are a few little things. Like when cruise breaks that light bulb under his coat and sprinkles the shards over the floor so he can hear the footsteps of something approaching better. There's also that elevator scene in the beginning.
