SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the need for a switchable MP3/audio player that allows users to play specific audio tracks by pressing multiple buttons simultaneously. The user seeks a solution that can handle up to 100 tracks, with snippets ranging from 2 to 60 seconds. They mention the concept of a "chordic keyboard" for input, which can be constructed using small pushbuttons. The user prefers a non-programmable, multi-selectable audio player, highlighting the potential for modern smartphone applications to fulfill this requirement.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of audio file formats, specifically MP3.
  • Basic electronics knowledge for constructing a chordic keyboard with pushbuttons.
  • Familiarity with audio playback software capabilities.
  • Experience with soldering and wiring for custom hardware projects.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research available MP3 players that support multi-select functionality.
  • Explore DIY projects for building a chordic keyboard using pushbuttons.
  • Investigate smartphone applications that can play audio snippets based on button inputs.
  • Learn about audio playback libraries for custom software development.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for audio engineers, hobbyists interested in DIY electronics, and developers looking to create custom audio playback solutions.

I think I posted this to the wrong thread before so will need to remove it from the Engineering one.

I'm not sure what it's called, but I need an mp3 or audio player that will allow me to select which track I want to play with the push of a few simultaneous buttons.

The tracks will be little 2-5 second snippets of a certain voice saying a phrase.

So if I pushed button 1 & 2 together, it would play track 1 for instance, and then stop.

I think the input could be called a chordic keyboard, which I could make using small pushbuttons in a handheld unit. I just need an mp3 player that responds to the various inputs. I might have up to 100 tracks, the longest of which might be 30 seconds or a minute.

I looked online, and one site wanted around $500 for a programmable unit. I don't need it programmable, just multi-selectable. I can solder or wire if needed.

Eleven years on, this can be easily be done in software on a smartphone.
