SUMMARY

The neutron absorption length of lithium-6 deutride can be calculated using the Beer-Lambert law, which relates the absorption cross section to the material's density and thickness. The discussion highlights the difficulty in finding specific data from government experiments, particularly those related to Castle Bravo. Key resources mentioned include the Neutron Cross Section database and the National Nuclear Data Center (NNDC) Atlas, although they may not provide the exact values needed. Understanding the ionic radius of lithium and hydrogen is crucial for accurate calculations in a simple cubic crystal structure.

PREREQUISITES
  • Beer-Lambert law
  • Neutron absorption cross section
  • Ionic radius of lithium and hydrogen
  • Crystallography of simple cubic structures
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Beer-Lambert law in detail
  • Explore neutron absorption cross section data for lithium-6 deutride
  • Study the ionic radii of lithium and hydrogen
  • Investigate crystallography principles related to simple cubic structures
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, nuclear engineers, and researchers involved in neutron interaction studies, particularly those focusing on lithium-6 deutride and related materials.

Could anyone tell me or direct me to a source with an answer or way to calculate the neutron aborbtion/interaction length of lithium-6 deutride? I would have expected this answer to be readily available from the government experiments leading up to castle bravo, but I cannot seem to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks to both of you, but neither site seems to have the right information; is there a way one could calculate the neutron absorption length given the absorption cross section and the ionic radius of both lithium and hydrogen, since the crystals are a simple cubic structure.
