Find Universities w/ Online Math Courses for Graduation

In summary, the person is looking for universities that offer online or independent study courses in mathematics. They are short of the last two courses needed to graduate, and would like to take the courses online. They are considering taking the Biostatistics course at LSU, but are uncertain of where to find the class.

Hi, I am currently looking for universities that offers Mathematics courses as an online or independent study course. I am only 2 courses short of graduation but unfortunately, so have my college funding. So if it's possible to take them online (which I believe is usually cheaper than on campus), I would like to do so. The two math classes that I need are the following:

INTRO TO REAL ANALYSIS I (MATH 305) [Course name and code is based on my school]
Course Description:
The real number system, elementary topological concepts in Cartesian spaces, convergence, continuity, derivatives and integrals.
Prerequisite(s): 112(Discrete Structures) and 205(Calculus III).
Credits: 3.
3.000 Credit hours
3.000 Lecture hours
Levels: Undergraduate
Schedule Types: Lecture
Mathematical Science Division
Mathematical/Computer Sciences Department
Course Attributes:
Undergrad Traditional

As for the second course, I just generally need any 3 unit upper division Math elective which is not any of the following as I've taken them already.
MATH ELECTIVES-UPPER DIVISION
MATH 318 Biostatistics
MATH 321 Numerical Analysis
MATH 341 Classical Geometry
MATH 415 Number Theory &History of Math
MATH 435 Differential Equations

For the math elective, I've considered taking the probability class at LSU, but for the first course (Intro to Real Analysis I), I have no idea where to find. It is hard enough to find math courses as online class, not to mention a specific one! So, if any of you know a college or university that offers that class, or a similar class, please let me know! Also, if you have any other options or suggestions for the upper division math elective, please let me know as well! Just let me know which school and a link to the course description for the online course. Thank you very much for your time and Happy 2013 people!

P.S. just as a reference, my school costs $1,292 per unit. So for two 3 unit courses, it costs $7752!

A Google search for "online college math courses" might be a good start.
I would suggest that you inquire with your advisor to make sure that the institution that you attend will allow you to take courses elsewhere to get your last 6 hrs and then award you a degree. Some require that your last 15-30 hrs are completed at the degree-awarding school.
Good luck.
BTW...In my experience, colleges charge at least as much for online courses as they do face2face, sometimes more.

Hi billblack. Thanks for replying. I already tried that. Unfortunately, all I've found are either lower division classes which doesn't help, or the school only offers the degree as a whole and not individual classes. I have already taken enough hours at my school to graduate from there so that's not a problem. Having my advisor/professor give an ok to the class is another thing but I haven't found a class yet! I'll probably so the LSU probability class for my upper division course so what I really need now is just finding a class that I can take to substitute my Intro to Real Analysis. I remember finding a class before that's similar but somehow I lost the site. i was hoping someone here has taken online math classes and could give me sites to look at :/

WTAMU has a few
http://wtamu.edu/academics/continuing-ed-independent-study.aspx

They have an Advanced Calc course (taken after Calc 3) that is described as follows:

"4341C. Advanced Calculus. Prerequisite: 2414. Enrollment limited to WTAMU students. Functions and relations, limits of functions and sequences, continuity and uniform continuity, differentiability and the Rieman integral. (3)"
Ottawa University has the Intro To Real Analysis class online as well this term: http://www.ottawa.edu/getattachment/Adult-Education/Online-Learning/Ung_Online_SP13_110712.pdf.aspx
Here's a sample syllabus:
http://onl.ottawa.edu/syllabi/samples/recent_syllabi/MAT-45143.pdf

Finally, Indiana U East ( www.iue.edu ) also offers several online math classes each term.

The University of London International has a half-course called "Advanced Mathematical Analysis" which is worth 15 UK credits (around 3.75 or 4 US credits; 120 UK credits = 30 US credits). The topics are: series of real numbers; series and sequences in n-dimensional real space R^n; limits and continuity of functions mapping
between R^n and R^m; differentiation; the topology of R^n; metric spaces; uniform convergence of sequences of functions.

Here is a preview of the study guide for the course:
http://www.londoninternational.ac.u...s/lse/lse_pdf/subject_guides/mt3041_ch1-3.pdf

It doesn't seem to cover integration because Riemann integration was covered in a earlier half-course called "Further Calculus".

It costs around £391 or £426 pounds to do an individual course (depending if it is a full or half-course).

http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/sites/default/files/regulatons/regs_html/regs_1213/emfss_individual_new_psr_12-13_wimba/index.htm

Here are some other courses you might be interested in:
MT3040 Game Theory (half course)
MT3042 Optimisation Theory
(half course)
Mt3043 Mathematics of Finance and
Valuation (half course)
ST3133 Advanced Statistics: Distribution
Theory (half course)
ST3134 Advanced Statistics: Statistical
Inference (half course)
MT3170 Discrete Mathematics
and Algebra (full course)

It is actually distance learning. You actually have to do an exam at a real exam centre (They have exam centres set up in most countries so you have to choose one at a convenient location).

Also, you would have to wait until May/June 2014 to do the exam because you would have to register for the school year 2013/14. I'm not sure if you would want to consider waiting that long.

Thank you all for the help! It looks to me Ottawa University is the best option as of now. Although University of London is considerably cheaper, but I don't want to wait until 2014 to graduate when I can be done by early March with Ottawa. I've sent the information to my adviser to look over and hopefully they can be transferred in and toward my graduation this May! Thank you all again, I'm still open to options if there are more out there

Good luck!

One more option: University of Idaho Math 471: http://www.webpages.uidaho.edu/~joyce/m471_html/Course.html

And the rest of their courses (for your second option) : http://eo.uidaho.edu/courses.aspx I want to add that West Texas A&M doesn't really limit those classes to their students, as the description says. They just want to know that the student has the proper pre-reqs, which is easier for "in house" students, but you can get approved.

There are other schools that offer the class online, like Chadron State, Emporia State, etc but a quick search says they're not offering it this semester.

Check out http://www.umuc.edu/students/catalogs/index.cfm

UMUC offers upper level math courses every semester. They offer Real Analysis, Numerical Analysis, and others that may interest you.

If you want more information about the school or their online math courses, let me know because I'm about to graduate from there with a BS in CS and minor in math.
