Cry Me A River

This week's theme is all about rivers of water. Your picture must have a river as its main subject.

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a grey area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. But other than that, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

I am debating entering Evo's Bridge in this one.
 
Here is the Carrabassett River in New Portland, Maine during a dry summer. The Carrabassett arises in the western mountains so it can get pretty hairy if it rains during snow-melt season. Hey! how did that bridge get into another contest?

Speaking of dry rivers, this theme would probably have worked better in another moth or two after the snowmelt begins the spring floods.

I have an idea for an absolutely awesome shot. I am curious if I will be bored enough in the next week to spend an hour driving around to get it (and if the river in question will have any water in it).

Crossing the bridge over Catamount Creek in Colorado.

The bridge is some flat stones laid on top of some logs. My brother-in-law looks a little more confident than my nephew, but that's only because my brother-in-law has remembered to bring his favorite stuffed animal.

rhuthwaite that is a beautiful picture but you should resize it. I think you can choose "resize for web" when you upload to imageshack. :smile:

Please read the theme as stated in the first post:

You may replace the submitted photo if you wish. If you do not have any picture that conform to the them, then your submission will be deleted.

Darn so many goods pictures. I have some awesome photos traveling on the Chao Phrya River in Bangkok. I need to scan some in if I have time.

It makes me want to aim for the left side. It's hard to read the current from a snapshot, but if you're running down the right side of the river, that dead tree is going to be pretty hard to avoid.

Yes it's a beautiful place, I go camping in that area a lot. Must be good fishing there cause you always see people doing it.

Colorado River from 35,000 feet. This is the border between California and Arizona. Unfortunately, it's a bit hazy through the plane's window.

Ferry? It looks more like a tugboat and barge. :biggrin: Is there anything interesting to do there other than look at the river and take a ferry ride? I'm always looking for ideas for weekend trips...especially when the weather turns warm again.

I was thinking S to N, but the Volga flows N to S, and the Red River in Minnesota is longer.

I would guess discharge or flow rate?

But the source of the Amazon is south of the equator, and the others are north (or mostly so). The southernmost 'source' of the White Nile is 2°16′55.92″S in Rwanda.
