I am currently in my 1st year of Msc Physics in India and want to do phd from foreign country but there are so many universities in diff countries (germany, usa,uk,france etc) , so how should i go about it , what to consider while applying ? What data should i gather before applying to any university , its all too confusing , some have GRE exams as a condition, others don;t, some have TOEFL , some require that a thesis be done at masters level but how do i select a university to apply ?

I would advise you first decide what field of physics you would like to go into, and then find out which universities are involved with which experiments you are interested in, and then enquire there!
