Homework Statement

What are the physical and chemical changes that occur when NaOH and Zn react.?Also how do this reaction differ from the reaction of Zn and HCl?

The Attempt at a Solution

I do know that zincate is formed in the first and H2 is evolved in the second .But as i have no time to go and perform in the lab...thus please tell me about the colour changes of solution, any deposition, cause and effect of these reactions.

Hydrogen evolves in both. Base results in zincate formation as a consequence of the amphoteric nature of the hydrated zinc ion.
