SUMMARY

The Physics Olympiad preparation discussion emphasizes the importance of studying high school-level physics, particularly mechanics and electromagnetism (E&M). Participants recommend reviewing past materials, utilizing textbooks, and engaging with resources like Irodov's "Problems in General Physics," despite its challenging nature. The consensus is that while Irodov may not directly align with Olympiad questions, mastering its problems enhances problem-solving skills essential for the competition.

PREREQUISITES
  • High school-level physics knowledge
  • Familiarity with mechanics and electromagnetism (E&M)
  • Experience with problem-solving techniques in physics
  • Access to physics textbooks and supplementary resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Study Irodov's "Problems in General Physics" for advanced problem-solving practice
  • Review past Physics Olympiad papers for question formats and topics
  • Explore additional textbooks on mechanics and E&M for varied perspectives
  • Utilize online resources such as educational videos and lectures on physics concepts
USEFUL FOR

High school students preparing for the Physics Olympiad, educators seeking effective teaching resources, and anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of advanced physics concepts.

Preparing for Physics Olympiad

Hey, guys...I am trying to prepare for the qualifying exam of the Physics Olympiad. What should I study? Are there any good ebooks, lectures, or tutorials that I should go over?

What level of Physics is this for? Highschool? Undergraduate?

Preparing for Physics Olympiad

It's for high school.

And what type of topics have you previously studied?

I'd suggest going over past material, your physics textbook, some outside reading, maybe a few wikipedia articles and reading other textbooks.

So far I have studied mechanics and E&M.

i just took my second round for the physics olympiad. I have heard that irodov is the best book one can study from... though it's tough and time-consuming... olympiads aren't like that really, they don't ask Irodov sort of problems... but if you do the Irodov problems, you won't get stuck at any type of problem.
I haven't done much of it... just EMI, Kinematics and Dynamics.
