SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the feasibility of creating a pyrotechnic pepper spray that utilizes burning powder combined with capsaicin or Carolina Reaper chili powder. The goal is to develop a non-lethal weapon that produces a steady stream of irritant similar to traditional pepper sprays, which use pressurized gases like propane or butane. Participants explore various methods, including loading cannon or shotgun rounds with pepper powder, to achieve a continuous spray effect akin to a rocket engine or pressurized can. The conversation highlights the potential for innovative solutions in non-lethal self-defense mechanisms.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of pyrotechnic compositions and their properties
  • Knowledge of capsaicin and its effects as an irritant
  • Familiarity with propulsion mechanisms in weaponry
  • Basic principles of non-lethal weapon design
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the chemical properties of Carolina Reaper chili powder and its effectiveness as an irritant
  • Explore the design and safety considerations of pyrotechnic devices
  • Investigate existing non-lethal weapon technologies and their mechanisms
  • Learn about the legal regulations surrounding the use of non-lethal weapons
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for inventors, self-defense enthusiasts, and researchers in non-lethal weaponry, particularly those interested in innovative applications of irritants and propulsion technologies.

How to make pyrotechnican pepper spray?
Hello. Ordinary pepper sprays on the market are cans pressurized with propane, butane etc., that propells the liquid pepper through a spray nozzle.

So I thought, would it be possible to make a pyrotechnic composition that act as pepper spray? Either that the burning powder itself act as a strong (but non-lethal) irritant, or through using carolina reaper chili powder or pure capsaicin mixed together with a burning powder that propells it?

If you load a cannon or a shotgun round with capsaicin/pepper-powder instead of lead, and simple shoot it out from the barrel, you will get a pepper shot, but I want to achieve a steady stream/spray pattern that keep going for a while, like a rocket engine, or a pressurized can.

Any ideas on how to achieve this? I guess there’s a bunch of different solutions that could work.
