Question on Practical Electricity

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion revolves around the practical implications of touching a live wire while standing barefoot on a wet floor. Participants analyze the scenario where the live wire (brown) is connected to the Earth wire, leading to a potential complete circuit. The consensus indicates that this situation would cause a significant current to flow due to low resistance, likely resulting in a blown fuse. The critical takeaway is the danger posed by electrical circuits when moisture is involved, emphasizing the importance of safety precautions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits
  • Knowledge of live and Earth wire functions
  • Familiarity with electrical resistance concepts
  • Awareness of safety measures in electrical work
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the function and safety of circuit breakers and fuses
  • Learn about the principles of electrical resistance and current flow
  • Study the role of grounding in electrical systems
  • Explore safety protocols for working with electricity
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for electrical engineering students, safety professionals, and anyone interested in understanding the risks associated with electrical circuits and proper safety measures.

Homework Equations

Not sure...?

The Attempt at a Solution

I believe the answer should be A or B.

I'm thinking the live and Earth wires will form a complete circuit. Since there is very low resistance, a huge current will be drawn, breaking the fuse.

...but it could be B since Earth wire is attached to metal case & now the Earth wire is connected to the live wire?

...?

Thanks in advance!

The live wire (brown) is connected to the Earth wire. What would happen if you touch a live wire when standing barefoot on a wet floor? (Do not try it!) ehild
